Jasmin Sings a Whole New World

Arabs are often dehumanized in popular media. By turning Arabs into violent terrorists, fumbling idiots, victimized women, and betraying seductresses, Western audiences are caused to become numb to Arab pain. I was a finalist for the Hollywood role of Jasmine in the live-action Disney movie Aladdin in 2018. I sang “A Whole New World” for my audition. Here, I compiled news footage from the 2021 airstrikes in Gaza with my image dressed as Jasmine while sitting on a flying carpet, a Kuffiyah. Again, the footage here used was from before October 7, 2023.
