Dancing With the Daffodils

When I first saw a zoomed-out visualization image of satellites that swarm our planet, I almost laughed. In an endless scatter of floating gadgets, their pathways, advanced technologies hovering close, many of them privatized, many of them operating classified surveillance procedures, it seems we are governed by a system of narcissism. Why are we not using innovation to gaze beyond our own reflection? Narcissus eventually turns to stone after gazing at himself too long. At the end of the myth of Narcissus, his stone turns into a daffodil.
Though I have decided to keep this wall piece visually open ended, to allow space for reflection, the impetus comes from a specific period of extensive research on surveillance technology that I conducted from 2021-2023. The spinning security mirror at the center of the target reminds us that we are always watching ourselves being watched. May we transform into flowers…
