Into the Mosaic

The U.S. legal doctrine called, “Mosaic Theory” appropriates and weaponizes ancient Islamic art. George W. Bush used the doctrine to conduct many secret interrogations after 9/11 to create a mosaic of information about terror. Mosaic Theory is still used by U.S. police and government agencies to spy on predominantly non-white communities in the U.S. This piece features an animation loop that depicts the mosaic tile art from inside the Dome of the Rock at Al-Aqsa Mosque, zooming in infinitely. The second video (my own drone footage) depicts me dressed like a video game character running in the Security Mall parking lot.
